Launched in 2013, Samaschool equips low­-income people to access, secure and sustain work in the digital economy. In 2016, we launched an updated a curriculum that teaches skills and competencies needed to access work through the technology-enabled gig economy (e.g., child care work through; home repair jobs through TaskRabbit). Samaschool is expanding its work in the San Francisco Bay Area to train low-income youth and adults to earn money through digital work platforms. Specifically, Samaschool works with a variety of community-based organizations throughout the Bay Area to prepare trainees to obtain and succeed in performing work through digital labor platforms. We are looking for a highly-motivated part-time instructor to lead trainings and ensure that students secure and sustain work. Ideal candidates will have experience teaching soft skills, workforce readiness, or entrepreneurship to diverse low-income communities and will have familiarity with digital labor platforms. Reporting to the Bay Area Program Coordinator, this individual will be responsible for helping Samaschool grow our nascent program in the San Francisco Bay Area. We anticipate approximately 5-8 hours of work per week with classes scheduled in the daytime and evening. Your schedule will include student contact time (in trainings) as well as time to prepare.


  • Effectively deliver the blended Samaschool curriculum to a variety of trainee groups across the San Francisco Bay Area.
  • Provide individualized support, coaching, and assistance to Samaschool students.
  • Prepare for sessions, including logistics management (e.g., testing technology before each class).
  • Maintain and monitor accurate records of student progress and document student outcomes.
  • Document and share best practices regarding curriculum design, development, and implementation
  • Represent Samaschool in the community and with partner organizations


  • Experience teaching or coaching diverse low-income populations, preferably in the Bay Area.
  • An energetic, engaging, and inclusive teaching style.
  • Fundamental understanding and ability to teach soft skills related to job readiness.
  • Digital grit: a desire to understand, use, and teach new technological tools.
  • Familiarity with Google Drive and other collaborative online tools.
  • A demonstrated commitment to improving the lives of individuals with barriers to employment and financial self-sustenance.
  • Superlative interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Comfort working independently and remotely.
  • A desire to maximize learning from this pilot program through ongoing communication, course correction, and continuous learning.
  • Eligibility to work in the U.S.
  • Flexible, self-motivated, and able to manage multiple priorities efficiently as a team player


  • Experience teaching job training, technology or vocational skills.
  • Experience using online and mobile work platforms, either as a consumer or as a worker.
  • Fluency in English and Spanish
  • Successful track record as a gig worker
  • Successful alumni of Samaschool’s program a plus
  • Experience in a fast-paced start-up or social enterprise work environment a plus
